New world record carp: 51.2kg
On November 23, 2018, Michel Schoenmakers caught a new world record carp weighing 51.2kg. With this massive weight, it is immediately the heaviest carp ever caught on rod and reel. This famous mirror carp had already broken the world record before, but this catch is about 2kg heavier.
A common question with these kinds of catches is: “Is it still healthy for the fish to reach such enormous weights?” The answer isn’t entirely black and white. If the fish’s skeleton continues to grow along, the fish will likely suffer little. But if mainly the belly grows and the skeleton doesn’t, the fish can literally eat itself to death. In the case of Euro Aqua, it seems the fish’s skeleton grows well, so this fish may remain healthy for a longer time.
What do you think? Do you believe this is healthy for the fish, or do you think this goes too far? Let us know in the comments.
