The Sonik AXS V2 Bivvy is the updated version of the popular AXS tent. For this second generation, Sonik mainly listened to feedback from anglers and improved several key aspects. The result is a sturdier, more waterproof, and more practical bivvy that still sets up quickly.
The biggest changes are in the frame, fabric, roof structure, and groundsheet. This makes the AXS V2 especially appealing to carp anglers looking for a compact but serious 1-person bivvy for both short and longer sessions.
What’s new with the Sonik AXS V2?
Sonik retained the base of the earlier AXS but technically reinforced several components. For example, the poles at key stress points now have a thicker double wall. This adds extra strength where the frame experiences the most force during wind and prolonged use.
The central frame block has also been updated. Whereas previous versions used more plastic, the AXS V2 features a new AXS ALLOY aluminum center block. This makes the construction stronger and also contributes to the tent’s quick setup and takedown.
Reinforced aluminum construction
The AXS V2 uses a lightweight 6061 aluminum frame with an anti-twist design. The most heavily loaded poles are reinforced with double wall thickness.
This is especially important for anglers who use their bivvy in rougher weather. A tent must not only go up fast but also inspire confidence when the wind picks up or when you stay on the same spot for several days.
New setup method
The front of the frame has also been redesigned. The new structure is engineered to make it easier and more stable to tension the tent without sacrificing the well-known quick AXS setup.
As a result, the Sonik AXS V2 remains a tent that can be pitched in a short time. At CarpCentral, the indicative setup time for this model is listed as under two minutes.
16,000 mm hydrostatic head
A key upgrade is the new Cloudbase+ fabric. The Sonik AXS V2 officially has a hydrostatic head of 16,000 mm. This fabric is developed for serious protection against rain and prolonged wet conditions.
The hydrostatic head indicates how much water pressure a tent fabric can withstand before moisture starts penetrating. A rating of 16,000 mm is more than enough for heavy rain and suits a bivvy designed for longer sessions and changing weather.
Waterproofing is not just about the fabric. The construction, seams, ventilation, and tent shape also play a role. Sonik has therefore further improved the roof protection and ventilation on the AXS V2.
Improved front peak and rain drainage
The AXS V2 features a large front peak with a rain drip guard. This overhang helps channel rain further away from the entrance and provides extra protection at the front of the tent.
The roof structure is also adjusted to better hold its shape and direct rainwater to the sides in a controlled way. This is especially useful during prolonged rain.
Ventilation during wet weather
Good ventilation is crucial to minimize condensation inside a bivvy. The AXS V2 has three Dura-mesh ventilation openings at the rear that can be operated from inside the tent.
Additionally, the front and rear vents are equipped with Watershed vent bars. This allows ventilation to stay open even in poor weather without rain coming straight inside.
Zip-in and clip-in groundsheet
One practical upgrade is the heavy-duty groundsheet, which can be attached either by zip or clips on the AXS V2.
This lets you choose how fully you want to secure the groundsheet. For longer sessions, you can zip it in tightly, while clips are handy for quicker setups or a simpler bivvy layout.
At the entrance, the groundsheet also has a fold-back flap to help keep mud and dirt outside the living area.
More interior space thanks to high, flat rear
The Sonik AXS V2 has a relatively high and flat rear panel. This makes better use of the available interior space compared to a sharply sloping tent shape.
The standard AXS V2 measures approximately 260 cm wide, 175 cm deep, and 137 cm high. Weighing around 9.6 kg, it remains easily transportable for a full-featured bivvy.
The straight rear makes it easier to position a stretcher far back, leaving more usable space up front for bags, boots, and other gear.
Internal storage pockets
Inside, the AXS V2 has mesh storage pockets at both the front and rear. These small details can make a big difference during longer sessions.
You can store a phone, receiver, keys, or other small items you prefer not to leave loose on the ground.
Removable front and various door panels
The front of the AXS V2 can be unzipped and removed. The tent also features ventilation panels beside the door and a two-way letterbox door system.
Depending on conditions, you can use a green door panel, a clear panel, or mosquito mesh. This lets you adapt the bivvy to temperature, visibility, and insect pressure.
Sonik AXS V2 Vapour Cap
For anglers wanting to reduce condensation further, there is a separate AXS V2 Vapour Cap available. This attaches directly to the bivvy’s special Direct-mount points.
The Vapour Cap creates an extra layer above the roof, helping to reduce condensation and better regulate the tent’s temperature. It is also made from 16,000 mm HH Cloudbase+ material.
Sonik AXS V2 XL for more space and height
Besides the standard AXS V2, there is also an AXS V2 XL. The main difference is the extra interior space and especially the height.
The XL version measures about 295 cm wide, 210 cm deep, and 162 cm high. This makes it more suitable for longer sessions, larger stretchers, or anglers who simply want more living space.
Additional accessories are also available for the XL, including a Vapour Cap, Wrap, and Internal Capsule.
Who is the Sonik AXS V2 for?
The AXS V2 is mainly aimed at carp anglers looking for a relatively compact bivvy without compromising on strength, waterproofing, and practical features.
The quick setup makes it suitable for short nights and mobile sessions, while the reinforced frame, 16,000 mm fabric, ventilation system, and sturdy groundsheet also make it fit for longer trips.
If you want more height and living space, the AXS V2 XL is the better choice.
